The Firearms Marking Regulations is a file we know has caused significant concern across the industry for years. These regulations, which require extensive permanent markings on all imported and manufactured firearms, were scheduled to come into force on December 1, 2025.
CSAAA worked earlier this year to have the regulations deferred yet again until they can be changed significantly or eliminated altogether. That updated timeline was not reflected in the most recent published materials and the December 2025 date remains on the documentation.
We are pleased to confirm that the deferral to 2027 is indeed happening, and the regulations will not be coming into force in 2025. Official documents will be released shortly, and we will share them with members as soon as they are available.
As written, the Marking Regulations pose significant technical and financial challenges for Canadian businesses, with no clear benefit to public safety. We will continue to advocate against these unworkable and ineffective regulations.
